I’m pretty certain I was 100% Mexican in another life. I live for Mexican food. But that usually means a lot of cheese, sour cream, and calories. So I’ve been trying to experiment with different taco toppings outside of my normal go-to’s.
I did a lot of pinteresting (that’s a verb by now, right?) and found some yummy sounding options. I took the liberty of mixing together a few different recipes I found to try to make one perfectly crafted, low calorie taco. And I think I succeded, if I do say so myself! 🙂
So I topped a perfectly fried shrimp recipe with this balsamic cilantro cabbage, pickled onions, and some bangin’ shrimp sauce. It was so easy to whip together and gave a really great crunch and flavor to the tacos!
BALSAMIC CILANTRO CABBAGE

This recipe is so easy. I used a head of cabbage and thinly sliced off 1 1/2 C worth. You can use red cabbage if you prefer, but I already had pickled onions so I wanted some green in my tacos!
You then mix together the cabbage, 1/2 C cilantro leaves, 2 Tbsp balasamic vinegar, 1 tsp honey and juice from 1 lime. Stir together and voilà! You’re quickly on your way to some delicious shrimp tacos!Print
A perfect, flavorful addition to any taco! Only 10 calories per serving! (0 SP)
- 1 1/2 C sliced cabbage
- 1/2 C cilantro leaves
- 2 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 1 tsp honey
- Juice from 1 lime
- Add all ingredients together in a bowl and mix well.
- That’s it! Use the cabbage to top your taco of choice!
