Ingredient Notes
The ingredients for this Sanderson Sister Snack Board are completely customizable but a few essentials are:
- Mini brie wheels
- Pepperoni slices
- Cheese curds
- Red, green, and orange bell peppers
- A fresh pea pod
- A black edible marker/pen
- Red cookie icing with a narrow dispensing nozzle
- Thin wheat breadsticks
- String cheese
Step by Step Photos
- Start with 3 small wheels of brie, spaced accordingly to leave room for their bodies and hair. Add their hair by using cheese curds for Sarah, rolled pepperoni slices for Winifred and blackberries for Mary. (See prep notes below for tips.)
- Draw their faces onto the brie using a black edible marker/pen and red cookie icing with a narrow dispensing nozzle.
- Build the witch's outfits by using a combination of berries for Sarah, blackberries and sliced mini cucumbers for Winifred, and clementine slices for Mary. Outline each outfit with sliced bell peppers to make their capes and add a few criss-crossed slices to look like their corsets. Slice open a fresh pea pod to make a necklace for Winifred.
- Complete the board by filling in empty spaces with crackers, pretzels, nuts, cheese, grapes and honey. Add in three witch brooms, made out of thin wheat breadsticks ad string cheese. (See prep notes below for tips.)
FAQs and Expert Tips
- Shopping: When you buy the cookie icing, make sure to get it in a bottle with a narrow dispensing nozzle to easily design their mouths. The edible black marker I found on Amazon but you may also be able to find them at Walmart, Michaels or Hobby Lobby.
- Substitutions: Many substitutions can be made to this Hocus Pocus charcuterie board! You can use strawberries instead of raspberries, grapes instead of blueberries or blackberries, kiwis or broccoli in place of mini cucumbers and cubed white cheese in place of curds.
- Prep: For placing the pepperoni for Winifred's hair, I recommend using toothpicks to hold each rolled piece and creating a triangle (two on the first--three on the next--up to 6 and then back down). For making the broomsticks, use kitchen shears to cut half a string cheese to look like broom bristles, then use a small knife to cut a hole in the string cheese before pressing in the breadstick (to prevent them from snapping as easily). Tie an extra strand of string cheese around the top to create the broom binding.
- Storage: This Sanderson Sisters Snack board can be made in advance and stored in a sealed or covered container until ready to serve. However, wait until serving to draw on their faces, as the color can begin to bleed when left out for too long.
Full-sized brie wheels, mozzarella balls, small bowls of white dip, and Babybell cheese wheels can all be used to create the faces for the Sanderson sisters.
For placing the pepperoni for Winifred's hair, I recommend using toothpicks to hold the rolled pepperoni slices together and then secure into the side of the brie wheel. You'll build a triangle for each section of her hair--so the first toothpick should have 2 pepperoni slices, the one next to it has 3, and so on up to about 6 then back down. Repeat on the other side of her head.
Our Hocus Pocus party was actually a birthday party for my daughter (in January, no less!) so we had a beautiful cake with sprinkles, eyeballs and a Winifred Funko Pop on top!
I also recommend putting out a bowl of cheese puffs and some Clark bars as an homage to the devil scene. We also had witch hat crescent rolls, mini pigs in a blanket (for dead man's toes), and of course my Hocus Pocus spell book brownies!
I also incorporated some cute signage with photos and quotes from the movie:
1. "Oh cheese and crust! He's lost his head!" for the charcuterie board
2. "Dead man's toes" for the mini pigs in a blanket
3. "The burning rain of death ('Tis but water!)" for the water pitcher
4. "boOOoooOOOOoookKKk!" for the spell book brownies
5. ...and my favorite: an image of Jay pointing to Ernie's (Ice's) shaved head for the ice dispenser!
